I’m extremely elated to receive my contributor copy of the “Black Fire This Time” anthology edited by Dr. Kim Mcmillon and co-edited by Kofi Antawi and published by Willow Books, a flagship imprint of the award-winning Aquarius books.
The anthology includes the work of Nikki Giovanni, James Baldwin, Ishmael Reed, Margaret Walker, Dudley Randall, Gwendolyn Brooks, and so many more. To share the pages with these literary greats is an absolute blessing for me and I’m immensely grateful to Dr. Kim McMillon and Heather Buchanan for giving me space among them.
A new anthology on the history and legacy of the Black Arts Movement. In a Foreword by Ishmael Reed, Black Fire—This Time is described as a 21st century “update” that builds upon the traditions of Alain Locke’s The New Negro (1920) and Amiri Baraka and Larry Neal’s Black Fire: an anthology of Afro-American Writing (1968).
Edited by Dr. Kim McMillon and with an Introduction by Dr. Margo Natalie Crawford, the theme of this anthology is “Black is Beautiful, Black is Powerful, Black is Home. ”Exploring the past, present, and future of Black writing, this collection bridges many of the founders of the Black Arts Movement—including Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Haki Madhubuti, Amiri Baraka, Wanda Coleman, Dudley Randall, Eugene B. Redmond, and Askia Touré—with contemporary established writers in the tradition such as Willow’s own brian g. gilmore—to Ishmael Reed’s “younger generation”—Karla Brundage, Allison E. Francis, Tongo Eisen-Martin, and C. Liegh McInnis.
My poem ” Asphyxiated” is included in the anthology. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Dr. Kim McMillon for giving me the space amongst the stalwarts of the literary community.

I’m an avid reader, loves to sing, an ardent lover of poetry and sometimes can scribble few lines too. Loves to dance in the rain, have an undying love for nature, can watch the beautiful sunset for hours. Love to kiss and hug my loved ones.
I have worked in the IT field for almost a decade as a manager, worked crazy hours and traveled around the world. In that busy schedule, I never got the time to creatively express my thoughts. Now every time I finish a poem, free verse anything it fills me with so much happiness and excitement and a feeling to have created something of my own. I’m planning to post at least one creation of mine weekly.
Lastly, a million thanks to all who visit, like or follow my tiny bits of creation.
Every time you do that, I get to know one more beautiful person in my life and get the chance to see their creation too.
